I do not know if I am registered as a Democrat, but I want to vote at the Democratic Primary. My husband thinks he is a registered Republican, but he wants to switch to Democratic Party. What does he need to do?
In Texas, it's very simple: When you go vote, tell the election worker before you sign in that you want to vote in the Democratic primary, and you will be directed to the electronic voting booths with the Democratic primary ballot. You can do this even if you voted in the Republican primary in past year elections. You cannot vote in both party primaries in the same year.
If you vote in the Democratic primary, then you will be a "registered" Democrat for the next two years. To vote in Texas, you only need to be registered with the State; no party affiliation is declared when you register. I assume that you have been living and voting in Fort Bend County. You can check on your registration status with the Fort Bend County Elections Administration Department at http://www.co.fort-bend.tx.us/getSitePage.asp?sitePage=5661 .
We are strongly encouraging everyone to take advantage of early voting, to avoid the possibility of the usual polling location not being used this year. Early voting begins Feb. 19, and you can vote at any early polling location regardless of your precinct. The locations and dates are shown below. If you wait to vote on Tuesday, March 4, you must vote at the polling location assigned for your precinct. You also may be able to vote by absentee ballot, check here for more information about both early and absentee voting: http://www.co.fort-bend.tx.us/getSitePage.asp?sitePage=5666
Thanks for contacting Fort Bend Democrats, your local club supporting all Democratic candidates and principals. Don't forget to check with the Fort Bend County Democratic Party webpage at http://www.fbcdp.org/ for additional information that might interest you.
